How to Treat Laryngitis | Foods & Healthy Recipes

Laryngitis

Laryngitis refers to the inflammation & swelling of the larynx or the voice box. This condition can result in a hoarse voice or in extreme case a complete loss of voice.

Symptoms to look for:

• Inflammation & swelling of larynx

Causes:

• Viral infection
• Allergies
• Bacterial Infection
• Bronchitis
• Injury

Food groups to consume in laryngitis:

1. Vitamin C: Fights free radicals and prevents infection from
spreading

Foods to consume: Vegetables like carrots, cabbage, broccoli, spinach and fruits like oranges, berries, kiwi, guava, papaya & lemons

2. Zinc & protein: Strengthens immune system and fights
infection

Foods to consume: Chicken, fish, eggs, nuts, milk, yogurt & tofu

3. Herbs: Relieves sore throat

Foods to consume: Thyme, basil, cardamom, cinnamon, and eucalyptus

Recipes based on the above food groups:

Recipe 1: Basil soup

1. Put 2 cups of water in a pan
2. Add 50 gm minced almonds in it
3. Now add 1 stick cinnamon to it
4. Also add 2-3 cloves
5. Then add 2-3 green cardamom
6. Now boil it for 10 minutes
7. Now sieve and add salt, pepper to taste
8. Finally, 10 basil leaves
9. Boil it again for 5 minutes and serve hot

Recipe 2: Broccoli & carrot dish

1. Add 2 tsp olive oil in a pan
2. Keep this on medium heat
3. Add to this 1 cup broccoli
4. Add ½ cup sliced carrots it
5. Add ½ tsp cumin seed powder
6. Also add a pinch of salt
7. Saute’ these ingredients for 10-15 minutes
8. Once done, serve this dish hot

• Avoid tea, coffee, carbonated beverages & alcohol
• Avoid smoking completely
